Cracks in ceramic capacitors?

It is well known that ceramic capacitors are suitable not only for automotive electronics, but also for electronic devices installed in harsh outdoor environments. Ceramic capacitors are one of the components we often use. When the ceramic capacitor is cracked, what is the solution? The method is still to look for it from the root cause, and follow it with Xiaobian.



The reason for the crack in the ceramic capacitor is that the problem is more serious than the solder crack when the capacitor element itself has cracks. When the crack destroys the internal electrode, dielectric breakdown may occur. Ceramic capacitor cracks generally have a certain pattern. After the terminal electrodes are tightly bonded by the solder, the flexural stress concentrates on the soldering members of the terminal electrodes, so that cracks are generated from the tip ends of the electrodes, and the copper element continues to expand forward.



Improper handling of the PCB after mounting the component usually causes cracks in the capacitive component. In order to achieve higher efficiency during production, ceramic capacitors are all mounted on a long continuous circuit board of the equipment line at a time, and then cut into single boards. If the board is manually slit, rather than mechanically cut or broken with a specific tool, the flexural stress may cause cracks in the capacitive element.



We can't avoid some of the factors that appear on capacitors. What matters is how we prevent and find ways to cure.
