Murata MLCC launches metal-terminal multilayer ceramic capacitors certified by automotive safety standards

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has commercialized the KCA series Type MF, a metal terminal type multilayer ceramic capacitor with a terminal pitch of 4 mm or more and approved by the automotive safety standard. Mainly used for electric vehicle car charger (OBC*1), inverter, DC-DC converter, etc. This product is scheduled to begin mass production in December 2018.

The metal terminal type multilayer ceramic capacitor KCA series Type MF approved by the automotive safety standard has obtained the capacitor international safety standard IEC60384-14 Class X1/Y2 certification, and can be used as a Class Y2 Y capacitor*2 in a vehicle charger. . The pressure applied to the ceramic body is alleviated by the elastic action of the metal terminal, and the risk of occurrence of cracking is suppressed. In the vehicle charger, this product is used not only as the AC product line required for the capacitor identified by the safety standard, but also as the Y capacitor of the DC product line.

In the past, the KCA series Type MF has been consistent with the terminal spacing of 3.2mm according to IEC60384-14. However, when used in the DC product line for electric vehicles, due to external voltage, working environment, substrate material and other factors, there are some cases between terminals. The distance of 3.2mm is still not enough. This product achieves a terminal pitch of 4 mm or more through a new design of the metal terminal. It can support higher voltage design requirements than previous products.
